There are many different types of facelift surgery, often referred to as “rhytidectomy,” that help correct telltale signs of aging. One hears terms such as “short-scar facelift,” “SMAS lift,” “deep-plane facelift,” “ponytail lift,” “lunchtime lift,” “mini facelift,” “full facelift,” “traditional facelift” etc. To make things even more confusing, there is no standardization from surgeon to surgeon, so one doctor’s “short-scar facelift” might be another doctor’s “traditional facelift.”
It’s easy to fixate on the name of a procedure, but the most important aspect of the process is that the surgeon is skilled performing all techniques. Just as individual patients have an array of anatomical configurations, a surgeon should be well versed in all of the various techniques to address these needs.
This is why Dr. Weintraub developed the Hybrid Facelift.
Different planes of the supportive anatomy need different attention and suspension. All are addressed in Dr. Weintraub’s signature Hybrid Facelift, from the deep-plane approach to the SMAS (submuscular aponeurotic system) approach to the resuspension of the top layer of skin in the cutaneous approach. In order to achieve a result that can last in excess of ten years, Dr. Weintraub will lift the different layers as needed with meticulous and tedious plication, and he sews all incisions closed with exceedingly fine suture material while wearing magnification loupes for extreme precision, much like what a jeweler wears when working on a fine timepiece. His incisions are always as “short” as possible, leaving patients with results that do not advertise telltale signs of surgery.
Ultimately, beyond the terminology and the approach, it is the result that matters. You should look refreshed and rejuvenated after a facelift, never “fake” or “done.” As Dr. Weintraub often says, “If you can tell something was done, it wasn’t done well.” Dr. Weintraub’s goal is to make you look like your best photos of yourself, not like someone else. Because Dr. Weintraub places all incisions in “hidden” places like behind the ear, or inside the tragus of the ear, he expertly disguises any hallmarks of surgery.
Often, Dr. Weintraub employs auxiliary procedures to enhance his delicate facelift work. These procedures can include: removal of fat from the jowls and neck, addition of fat to areas devoid of volume (such as the cheekbone region and areas around the mouth), as well as laser resurfacing to transform skin from burlap to silk.
